New Medical Degree Course(BRMS) in Three and Half Years In India: Soon to Become a Reality

The Indian students will be happy to know that a Medical Degree of three and half years after 10+2 could very soon become a reality. This new course will be called as Bachelor of Rural Medicine and Surgery (BRMS). The debate on this new course has been going on for a long time with out any concrete conclusion. Finally ,in spite of stiff opposition Government Of India has finally approved this course to be launched in 2011 or 2012. The Union Health Ministry, Govt. Of India has said" the introduction of BRMS was endorsed in the meeting (held in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India) unanimously". This means India's rural areas comprising around 80% of Indian population, which have been so far neglected by Indian doctors, will have a dedicated medical care, drawn from students raised in rural ares. More over each year lakhs of students sit for entrance exams to MBBS  course for a couple of thousands seats only. Having an ambition to become doctor and not qualifying the entrance test build of frustration among the medicine aspirant students in India. Now all these students can take this alternative route to become a medical professional in lesser time with much ease and help the rural folk which are deprived of proper medical care.
Under the scheme, the BRMS degree would be acquired in two phases and at two different levels — Com munity Health Facility (one – and – a - half years) and sub-divisional hospitals (secondary level hospitals) for a further duration of two years. The degree is expected to be offered by institutes in rural areas with an annual sanctioned strength of 50 students. "Selection of students would be based on merit in the 10+2 examination with physics, chemistry and biology as subjects," the ministry said.
It is a very cheering news for the +2 students in India looking an alternative to five years MBBS couse.
